With all the changes happening this year in family law, this Family Mediation Week will prove to be the most important yet.
During Family Mediation Week, family mediators, their membership organisations and the Family Mediation Council will be promoting the benefits of family mediation over the more traditional routes such as involving the courts.

Since the introduction of the “no fault” divorce by virtue of the Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Act 2020, the landscape for divorcing and separating couples has changed allowing the chances of a less acrimonious split by not requiring the element of blame to evidence the breakdown of the relationship. This is never so important as when there are children within the relationship and their wellbeing can be damaged by warring parents.
Family mediation currently remains a voluntary process and makes a significant difference to divorcing and separating couples when continuing communication is key when sorting out all the issues surrounding a relationship breakdown.
Family Mediation Week will run from 16 – 20 January 2023 and during that time you will see family mediation mentioned a lot in the press and promoted by solicitors. They will tell you how family mediation is a direct alternative than going to court, that it is quicker, that it is cheaper and less stressful than fighting things out in front of judge.
